Cup of Coffee: September 9, 2022
An abbreviated Thursday night schedule, some new rules, Roberto Clemente Award nominees, Dabo Swinney's jackassery, old timey radio, and yeah, I'm gonna talk some about the Queen.
Good morning!
The Twins actually beat the Yankees last night. Feel like that’s a sign of The End Times, but if not, the new shift rules are. God, I hate them. But yeah, we talk about those and the new clock rules and a bunch of other new rules likely to be approved today by MLB for implementation in the 2023 season. Also, the Roberto Clemente Award nominees are out.
In Other Stuff, Dabo Swinney is a jackass, friend of the newsletter Dan Epstein wrote some great words about a cool project a guy I knew in high school has going on, and, yeah, I talk some about the Queen today. I won’t dance on her grave or anything — and I have at least some moderately kind words for the spectacle and pageantry of official state business like royal death rituals — but I’m sure as hell not your huckleberry if you’ve come here to read some effusive or loving praise of a monarch. As always, I am tough but fair.1
