Not gonna lie. I first got wind of Defector at about the same time things went sideways for you at NBC, and I personally wishcasted you into joining Defector. I didn't think it would be a perfect fit (and I wasn't aware at the time that you were planning to go the solo route), but I also figured that I couldn't be the only one who was a fan of both your work and theirs, so I thought maybe it could work.
A lot of people said that to me, actually. I know some of the people behind Defector, but not most of them and not well. I admire most of their work but I'm pretty old-timey, normcore and chatty compared to those folks and I question how well I'd fit with them. I dunno. I do think they should cover baseball better, though.
Say what you will about Rubin the Amazing Cube, but the kids who owned the cube were Latinx, which was nearly unheard of on Saturday mornings. I am sure the writers had no idea how to write such characters but gIven how white cartoons were, it’s still remarkable.
I like apples period. Picking them yourself is an added bonus. Growing up in a foreign country I read stories of apples and knew of their existence, but didn't taste my first one until I was 15.
Yesterday was Blue Frog Farm, which Lynd's owns. it's in Johnstown, separate from the main Lynd's place in Pataskala. But yeah, I often go to Lynd's. I'm pretty close to it.
As a wise man once said, "anyone who can bowl a perfect game can play second base." Or something. Anyway, Mookie's LA success continues to break hearts across New England.
He played a handful of games at 2nd when he first came up in Boston, nobody cared much at that time, but when he played one game there in 2018 some had the same concern that Craig had.
I was 8, but had the exact same thought. I feel like I must have watched it, but have no memory at all of its existence. (And this coming from a guy who spontaneously starts singing the theme song to the Gummy Bears cartoon every now and then.)
Amazingly, the Rubik cartoon had only 13 episodes, but ABC somehow had it on the air for a full 16 months.
Apple picking is such a waste of fall weather. Wandering around an orchard with a bunch of other people when the apples for sale at the farm stand are exactly as good and fresh. Better than pick your own strawberries but that's about it.
It’s a great Saturday afternoon date, if you’re in the early-ish months of a relationship. And it’s a fun time-killer if you have kids under, say, 10 years old. Apart from those scenarios, you are correct.
Growing up in NH apple picking was a thing big thing. Of course back in the 70s and 80s these new fangled designer apples were not a thing. Macintosh apples were all we had at the farm we had 10 min from my house.
SomeDaughterInVA2.0 and I are Nats fans who have taken to calling him "Freddie F*cking Freeman", but only out of the utmost respect for him and his ability to crush the Nats on a nightly basis.
Loved reading about your SF experience. Sounds like a totally not abnormal day in the city. Besides being mostly on fire currently, Ca has a lot to offer and you will surely leave with a story.
I'll take a Macintosh apple over a Honeycrisp. I guess that makes me old school. Or just old.
I believe we've already established that being part of Craig's audience already makes you (us) old.

Maybe you can challenge Ray Ratto to a duel for his seat at the table
I need a Ratto-Calcaterra podcast in my life.
I don't listen to podcasts. But I'd listen to this!
The Honeycrisp is the Coldplay of apples. Highly overrated.
wow. THAT escalated!
OMG I'm gonna jump through your computer monitor and we're gonna throw hands
1. Is Coldplay still rated anyway?
2. Honeycrisp is The Truth.
The Honeycrisp is overrated, and grossly overpriced. You are being lied to by marketers.
Somewhere Coldplay is being played right now. And somebody loves it. Ever work retail with a paid music service? Coldplay is their Beatles.
Properly rated. Invented by the University of Minnesota and is more expensive because a higher percentage of the crop cannot be picked and eaten.
Honeycrisp & brie. My wife gonna fight you now. (You don't want that traffic.)
Honeycrisp is the only acceptable apple
For those that need that tart bite, Honeycrisp is too sweet to have it be your session apple https://www.reddit.com/r/coolguides/comments/davkj5/apples_on_a_scale_from_most_tart_to_most_sweet/
Pacific Rose are the bomb but you can hardly ever find them. I'm growing Empires, but the tree is a baby so no production yet
Can we all at least agree that Red Delicious apples are the worst? They're like the Nickelback of apples.

Did you go to Lynd’s Farm for the apple picking? I’m looking for some fall activities before the depressing winter comes to Columbus.
Yesterday was Blue Frog Farm, which Lynd's owns. it's in Johnstown, separate from the main Lynd's place in Pataskala. But yeah, I often go to Lynd's. I'm pretty close to it.
Thanks! I’ll check it out.
Physically, you may not have been born by September 3, 1967, but spiritually, I think you were born in 1936 or so.
Craig was born in 67?

In 83 I was 13, I remember the PAC-Man cartoon but not Rubik, I’m now disappointed I missed it.

The more you know!
I was 12. Same.

'I would rather be nine people's favorite thing than a hundred people's ninth favorite thing."
From the Broadway musical [title of show]
Gravensteins and cortland are old favs as well as russet apples in winter!
Stop pitching to Freddie Freeman, please.
Not until he names one of his kids "Citi".
“Nats Park Freeman” just doesn’t have the same ring.
Stupid Freddie Freeman and his stupid hair.
SomeDaughterInVA2.0 and I are Nats fans who have taken to calling him "Freddie F*cking Freeman", but only out of the utmost respect for him and his ability to crush the Nats on a nightly basis.
Thanks for finally showing me the positive side to corporate naming.
"[S]ix Cubs relievers combined for five and a third innings of six-hit ball to make room for a comeback" is pretty on the nose for baseball in 2020.
