Count me in as someone who would be interested in a Pod of Coffee (feel free to steal that title). In-season, I'd probably want it to be more baseball focused (something like 2/3 baseball to 1/3 other stuff) with the offseason ratio varying as the hot stove ebbs and flows. As far as guests, I wouldn't want to have guests just for the sake of having them on; ideally (for me) you'd either have recurring guests with which you have chemistry or perhaps a co-host, but flying solo would be preferable to a show with awkward interviews.

I would also give a podcast a try and I like the co-host idea; it works very well on a pod to which I currently subscribe. Same pod also has occasional guests and it serves as a nice change of pace. How much merch would one have to purchase to be in consideration to be a pod guest? (Only half kidding)

Wonder if Keurig would issues a cease and desist on that name, guess more likely if it was called K-Pod of Coffee, lots of baseball/coffee references in that name

I was going to say that instead of "K-Cup of Coffee" he could go with "C-Cup of Coffee". But then I realized that while solving some problems it might create others.

I’d subscribe and try to listen to a podcast, yes.

I would def listen. I’d like to know more about what is happening to the minor leagues too. Winter meetings are a weird mystery to me— in person meet and greet deal making? Necessary? Rule 5 draft nuances; contract interests on both sides leading up to 2021. some interviews would be good too— but no mlb rep reporters please! Emily Walden would be of interest. Some players with actual personality would be good. Tx!

I'd listen to your podcast. I suggest a 50/50 split between baseball and other stuff. A co-host and/or guests would be a good way to get additional opinions and voices.

That leaves him with the problem of how to convince Anna to co-host a podcast for old people.

What is the opposite of a hype man? maybe if it's sold to her that way

“ La Russa, who managed the White Sox before a good many of you were born (1979-1986)...”

Are there really any subscribers born after 1986?

Expand full comment

You don't think there's any subscribers younger than 34?

You think there are?

It was mostly a joke about Craig’s target demographic...but yeah, I’m guessing the “good many” might be a bit generous

Why wouldn’t there be?

A person born in 1987 would be, let’s see...breaks out calculator...carry the one...find the common denominator...divide by zero...where does Pi fit into this? I never was good at math...visits WolframAlpha...

29! Apparently, they’d be 29! Wait, that’s not right either...

Oh well. They’d be 30-ish and that seems old enough to play in “Craig’s Baseball Sandbox”. BTW, Craig you can keep that as the name of your Podcast. Obviously, you’re welcome and we can talk about where to send my checks.

Yes on podcast, not to take away your weekends but a Sunday night release wrapping up he previous weeks baseball activities and the following weeks plans could work.

Definite yes on the podcast. rantings encouraged!

A podcast would be a lot of fun! I would prefer a co-host or regular guests or something, as I find a solo unscripted voice pretty hard to bear (there usually ends up being more than a few spots of dead air and "uhhhs"). But others' mileage may vary.

Yeah, some Lincoln project guys I can kinda take on occasion, like Tom Nichols, but only when he gets into it with Charlie Pierce on Twitter and Charlie schools him.

I would listen to a podcast! It would probably be best with guests, and I'm not sure the offseason is the time to launch it, but I'm no expert.

Just world, schmust world - I'm a man of science ... it's pretty clear to me that the buzzer wire (you know, the one he didn't want his teammates to tear off his shirt to reveal) damaged Altuve's throwing muscles.

I'm not going to say he had it coming, but I'm sure as hell not gonna feel sorry for him.

I would absolutely listen to a Cup of Coffee podcast.

Expand full comment

Yeah but Altuve is also hitting .333 with 5 homers this postseason. That's after hitting like crap the entire regular season. So things are looking up for him. He can have piece of mind knowing he regained his form.

A few weeks back I got a survey from Aramark about in stadium eating and such.

The main gist of it was them trying to figure out if people were still working to wait in food lines or if ordering from an app for pickup from a single location once you were alerted food was ready was preferable.

Hell yes to a podcast. I cannot find a smart and fun baseball podcast for my life.

Not to be negative, but realistically, no, I wouldn't end up listening to a podcast.

Is there enough money on the planet to buy out a what Tatis Jr. get on the free agent market for his age 25 through 27 seasons? But I guess, as is always the case in these buy out a few seasons of free agency deals, whether to get $30M or $50M a year is of less concern that guaranteeing you'll get at least that $30M regardless of how things go for you between now and then.

Maybe Cashman saying Sanchez's status is a fair question is merely acknowledgement that they are in the JT Realmuto chase. If they get Realmuto, obviously Sanchez wouldn't be their starting catcher anymore.

If I'm any indication Craig's worries about J.D. Vance are unfounded because until now I never even heard of him of his Hillbilly Elegy. Then again, I'm about as out of touch with popular culture as one can get.

I saw the roasts on twitter starting yesterday, I have no idea who he or it is either, but a friend of my sister was paid $1M in the 80s for the script to a really really bad movie. that it got produced, let alone with the writer getting a fraction of that million, was/is an indictment on the whole entertainment industrial complex.

Thousands of untalented people get rich and influential without us knowing or noticing. When I notice them, I get mad and wish I could call them out like Craig does here.
