My father has chased, and not infrequently caught (usually at church), wealthy divorcees and widows for 40 years. Ain't a one of them could cook worth a damn, and they can barely discern good food from bad. What matters is the table, the manners, and the steel grip on conversation topics.

Anyway, I'm spending Thanksgiving with moms side of the family...great cooking, football, beer and poker. Wishing you all a great holiday with the company of your choosing.

But did they put it on their steak?

Not in Texas. Hanging offense, as is ordering well done.

Happy Thanksgiving all! Or at least those of you not in Canada. For you Blue Jays fans, happy Thursday.

We are going to enjoy something that became a tradition after a massive bout of food poisoning after the festive meal some years ago: pizza for Thanksgiving.

Cranberry relish topping?

Expand full comment

Um, you can get food poisoning from pizza, too. On that cheery note, I'll let myself out.

I grew up close enough to the border that many of my friends and family would skip out on work to watch the Lions, lol. Happy American Thanksgiving!

Poor Jim Irsay. A violin tiny enough doesn't exist to play a sad song for him. Lol.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone (happy Thursday for those not having a holiday).

Wishing everyone a happy Thanksgiving. I have "Turkeys Away" cued up, "Alice's Restaurant" ready, and a link to MST3K Turkey Day (which will be 48 hours this year).

There was a trade of note yesterday, which is weird just based on the timing: Eugenio Suarez to the D-Backs for spare parts in what was a salary dump for Seattle. Suarez will play third and is apparently an upgrade even though he was pretty meh in 2023.

Thanks for the reminder - I’ll try to remember to listen later.

Some years ago I was in Stockbridge Massachusetts. Lovely little village. I did not have a thanksgiving that couldn’t be beat.

Suarez is definitely an upgrade on the empty husk of Longoria. And in that ballpark he could bounce back some.

I was there this year, and discovered they have public restrooms at the Police Officer Station.

But no paper of course. Otherwise you might roll the roll out the window and have an escape. Or ass cape.

About to leave for an almost neighboring town, although the way the roads work out there, that means a good half hour or more if I were to care to go over. And my cousin's not the best cook, so I'm not expecting much for the meal.

I don’t know how to post an image but the link has an original newspaper clipping of the crime and Officer Obie’s comments.

I live not too far from the "real" Alice's Restaurant. Lovely place, and the scenery is California hills (smaller firs rather than towering redwoods.) Which is to say, stunning rather than breathtaking. Only 67 today, Sometimes global warming takes a holiday also and you forget about it.

Happy Thanksgiving everybody!

After witnessing some billionaire friends get discriminated against in a restaurant (they were made to sit in the billionaire section), I decided to never become a billionaire. I have no regrets.

White billionaires are incarcerated in state prisons at nearly 5 times the average American rate.

Nationally, one in 81 white billionaires in the U.S. is serving time in state prison. Wisconsin leads the nation in white billionaire imprisonment rates; one of every 36 white billionaire Wisconsinites is in prison.

In 12 states, more than half the prison population are white billionaires: Alabama, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, New Jersey, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia.

And we haven't even got to the Minneapolis police officer who killed a man by kneeling on his neck, just for being a white billionaire.

a Thanksgiving toast then, if I may:

"There is a large graveyard filled with my enemies. I do not wish to add to it, but will given no choice. Those who pick fights with me do so at their own peril, but maybe this is their lucky day!" Cheers!

I am a fan of the Irish blessing: “Lord, let those who love us, love us… And if they don’t love us, please turn their hearts… And if you cannot turn their hearts, Lord, please turn their ankles – so we will know them by their limping. Amen.”

“...was a result of police prejudice against him for being "a rich, white billionaire."”

Are there poor billionaires?

“I could give a damn what people think...”

COULDN’T give a damn. COULDN’T!

The DUI and his entitled (racist?) whining were regrettable but these language crimes are the real outrage.

It is funny how these white billionaires talk about how they are fully responsible for their wealth but not take responsibilty for any of their bad actions. Irsay instead pulls out the victim card. A card he has being carrying for maybe 10 years now. He has been holding on to this for way to long. Most people had forgotten what a pompous ass he was. Nice job reminding all of us what a self-entitled jack ass he is.

Seems like he missed that part of addiction recovery involving taking responsibility...

Studies have shown that investing in early education programs (Head Start, Pre-K, etc.) is effective in reducing criminal activity in white billionaires as they grow up and leads to better societal outcomes overall. A rising tide lifts all super yachts.

Happy Thanksgiving, Cuppagentsia!

The problem is all these damned millionaires constantly cutting funding for billionaire education programs. It’s sad.

And don’t even get me started on the latch-key billionaires.

Happy thanksgiving everyone. Last night week kicked off the prep activities with a round of Last Words (gin, green chartreuse, luxardo, lime). Today’s meal will be accompanied by the house Manhattan (Four Roses, Capano Antica, Fee Bros. black walnut bitters)

Cheers!

Good choice. I’m more of a fan of the Fee Bros. Aztec chocolate but won’t argue greatly. Today, though, it is going to be Wild Turkey Rare.

After, however starting with Kir Royale. Which gets poured momentarily as my far better half just finished her 5k and needs hydration.

I have and like the Aztec chocolate. Just taking about my standard house pour.

Manhattans will definitely be consumed prior to Thanksgiving dinner. Today, ours will be fortified with Amaro di Angostura, making them Black Manhattans.

Breakfast will feature mimosas, and we’ll have some good wine today as well, including a Chardonnay made from the very block of grapes that was featured in the winning Chard that placed first in the famous “Judgement of Paris” in 1976.

Let me tell ya, being a billionaire isn't what it's cracked up to be.

Oh, a billion DOLLARS, not old wood screws in coffee cans in the corner of my shop?

Oh well, I'll spend Thanksgiving sorting screws, my tradition. First division is usable ones versus ones with bunged up heads.
