Strictly from my own personal experience as a lesbian: when someone does something akin to this and starts an apology with "As a man of faith," then there is no reason to keep going. It sounds, to me, like they think religion is their blanket defense and also a "reason" for their beliefs.
Side note: Is there a way to get email notifications for new posts but skip emails for reactions? I mean, I love the likes but I don't need an email telling me that.
Anyone here think maybe, just maybe, the guy shouldn't lose his job over this? Perhaps there is an opportunity to educate him so he truly understands why this is hurtful. If we execute everyone who steps out of line it is not going to change people's opinions and beliefs, it is just going to drive them further underground. That nets us more Charlottesvilles and more Trumps. I think we have all grown over time, and this is a chance for Tom Brennaman to grow and maybe become what he claims to be.
Well said, Craig.
And it sounds like the terrible, terrible words that he is disassociating himself from are "racist" and "homophobic" and not, like, the actual slurs.
Nailed it.
Thank you.

I thought the same thing when I saw that line. Eventually, he'll come around to using that and the first amendment to justify his language.
HIs only real apology without the "if i offended" was to 'the people who sign my paycheck'
That fact that you would update this here AND send a second email is worth $65/year alone. Respect.

Hmmm Not sure? I have no idea what level of customization individual subscribers have. I'll see if there's a global setting.

Hmm tough choice, personally I appreciated you told us exactly what went on but I can see why you changed your mind.
Honestly I'd rather not get the emails at all. I check all my list of sites each morning and this is on the list so the email is just spam for me...

Thank you for your apology for reprinting his slur.
