Without ESPN Americans would probably still be ignorant to the joy of watching Australian Rules Football, so there is that.

"Judge bet on himself and went into his walk year. That bet has paid off like nobody’s business."

I find it curious that in the same newsletter where the shittification of sports media due to gambling is frowned upon, a Judge is celebrated for betting on himself and getting paid for it.

Did Calcaterra not just point out earlier this week how having all these Trump-appointed Federalist Society hacks in the courts is a cancer on the judiciary and rule of law? But it's ok for this Judge to place bets on his own decisions? What if this Judge was presiding over the Trump Special Master decision and took a flight out to a blackjack table in Vegas to place a bet that he would rule in favor of appointing a Special Master? Everyone knew it would be ridiculous to rule that way, so this Judge could just make up a bunch of malarkey to rule that way anyway and win that bet - Calcaterra is ok with this?

Also, does Calcaterra have no empathy for this Judge as a human being? We all saw how Cinder Guard's life spiraled out of control after he admitted to betting on himself in free agency (https://mlb.nbcsports.com/2019/02/20/noah-syndergaard-i-feel-like-im-going-to-bet-on-myself-in-free-agency/) and now has the constant threat of Rod Manfire doling out a lifetime ban from the game to him at any moment.

This Judge is now surely on Manfire's radar for a lifetime ban from the game. The pandemic-shortened season of 2020 allowed Manfire to build up MLB's ban reserves so there's enough to go around for this type of event even after Guard's lifetime ban is doled out. And Calcaterra would celebrate this Judge placing bets on himself that will stain the integrity of the game, get him banned from the game, and ruin his life... instead of seeking help for his gambling addiction?

I'm sorry, but Calcaterra spilled his soda in a DC cafeteria with this take.
