Cup of Coffee: October 18, 2023

The Phillies bash again, Dave Roberts will return, I'm sad we're not getting that "Field of Dreams" show, giving Musk money, a gunner, college campus fixations, and self-loathing Midwesterners

Good morning!

Yesterday I was bored and I clicked on one of those Facebook Reels and it served me up one of the more unhinged things I’ve seen in a while. I mean, maybe, moments before the Earth and every living thing on it is destroyed I’ll think “ha, don’t have to pay the mortgage anymore!” but I feel like I’ll be thinking about other things.

That has nothing to do with anything today, but I didn’t know where else to put it, so I put it there. Now you have to see it.

In non-crazy land, the Phillies broke out the boppin’ bats once again and took a 2-0 lead in the NLCS, we remember a bad choice by the Yankees, and I talk a lot about how I am sad — genuinely sad! — that they didn’t get to make that “Field of Dreams” TV series. Because we learned yesterday that that show would’ve been amazing.

In Other Stuff we contemplate giving money to Elon Musk, we meet a gunner, ask why we should care what goes on on college campuses, and we confront self-loathing Midwesterners.
