Good morning!

It’s election day. If you liked my dark little rant about the state of American politics yesterday you can now share it with people you’d like to depress. Otherwise, I’m turning off all the TVs and doing nothing but reading about baseball and plate tectonics today. At least that’s the plan as I sit here at 6:04 AM.

As for today’s newsletter: we have some new free agents due to opt-outs, my “we will not trade Shohei Ohtani” t-shirt is raising a lot of questions already answered by my t-shirt, the details of the first ever draft lottery were officially announced, Don Draper pitches Trea Turner, the company that owns the Red Sox and Liverpool F.C. is pitching the latter, we have the Hall of Fame Veterans Committee ballot, even if they don’t call it the Veterans Committee anymore, someone threw a beer at Ted Cruz and I endorse that message, Bob Costas has a double standard, the Rockies have a new hitting coach, Alex Bregman broke his finger and there are a couple of other random items from a busy day around baseball.

In Other Stuff I talk about Portnoy’s Complaint — no, not the book or the movie — there was probably a fixed UFC fight over the weekend, and I talk about trekking poles because, folks, I know how to excite a crowd.
