A big signing, a new chief executive, Ohtani's hardware, McGriff's Hall of Fame chances, laughs from Vermont, annoyance in New York, outrage over Pennsylvania and Arizona, cashmere, and memory lane
Good morning!
There was a pretty big signing yesterday, with the World Series champions wisely improving themselves and a free agent justly enriching himself. The Twins have a new chief executive. It’s the old one’s nephew, which is the kind of thing that reminds you that major league baseball teams, for as famous and fancy as they are, are no different than a local auto dealership or a carpet store or whatever as far as structure goes. Elsewhere, Shohei Ohtani took home some hardware and Fred McGriff, with some help from a pretty Fred McGriff-friendly electorate, seems like he’s on a glide path to the Hall of Fame.
In Other Stuff I got a fun missive from the People’s Republic of Vermont, The New York Times is TRYING to find the guy who did this, Republicans are crapping on democracy right in front of our eyes and no one seems to think it matters, we spend a frankly disturbing amount of time talking about the economics of cashmere, and I was inspired to take a walk down memory lane yesterday after a very strange phone call.
So whaddaya waitin’ for? Get readin’, will ya?
