My only real surprise with the Callaway announcement was that it didn't drop at 4:30 pm on the Friday of a holiday weekend.

After the White Sox won the World Series in 2005, I bought a partial season ticket package in the left field bleachers (initially, to guarantee that I could get seats for the season opener and the raising of the banner), and had them for about 8 or 9 years. Loretta Micele, by the time 2006 rolled around, worked by the Short Stop concession stand on the third base line near the left field corner. By that time, she wasn't behind the counter, but was by the condiment section, saying hi to fans and presumably helping people out when they needed it. People loved her, and naming the lounge area near that stand after her was a very appropriate honor.

One thing that came out of the tweet storm from the aggravated fan is that the White Sox never bothered to let the Micele family know that honor that the club bestowed on her was taken away. The excuse is that some other part of the park concession area that had been named after La Russa had been remodeled, and that part didn't exist anymore. So apparently that was enough to take away an honor from a woman who started working for the Sox the year after La Russa was born. Regardless, this shows such a lack of class, which seems to be the direction the organization has been heading in since hiring TLR.

And the thing is, the whole Loretta's Lounge thing is very consistent with the White Sox and Chicago Bulls both showing gratitude towards their non-ball playing employees. For example, the Bulls used to practice at the Berto Center in Deerfield. The Berto Center was named after a secretary employed by the franchise who worked for Reinsdorft and passed away.

This seems like such an easy fix, yet the initial response by the team (hey, we put up a plaque) seems to indicate they'll dig in their heels.
