Cup of Coffee: January 3, 2024

A slow baseball news day but a whole lot of other stuff, including my ranking of the James discography, my bum knee and flat bum, people's hopes for 2024, and a tough autumn for a great writer.

It was a very slow baseball news day yesterday, but I talk about the Cubs new bench coach, check in on the Oakland A’s chaotic relocation, and talk about Paul Lukas’ decision to step away from Uni Watch.

The bulk of today’s newsletter is Other Stuff. I have a lot to say — way, way too much, actually — about the band James. Don’t blame me, though. Blame the two subscribers who asked me questions about ‘em. Apologies in advance for getting way too deep into the weeds.

Beyond that I talk about my bum knee and my flat bum — just go with it, it pays off — people’s hopes for 2024, and the plight of a wonderful writer whose recent health scare has caused him to run smack into the realities of both the modern journalism industry and the American healthcare system.
