Cup of Coffee: December 9, 2022
Nimmo stays in New York, Heyward goes fo Hollywood, Ricketts goes to Washington, the Red Sox are going to hell, T.J. House comes out, and I talk about Brittney Griner, Ron DeSantis and marriage
Good morning!
Most of the world of baseball was offline for large parts of yesterday as they flew home from the Winter Meetings in San Diego or, at the very least, spent the day recovering from them. Still, the Mets weren’t sleeping as they made two signings. The Dodgers made a signing too, but it wasn’t exactly reaching for the stars, even if the name in question was a big one.
Apart from that I assess the state of the Boston Red Sox, note that a part-owner of a big league team is about to become a United States Senator, and share the news that former MLB pitcher T.J. House has publicly come out as gay and announced that he is getting married.
In Other Stuff I talk about Brittney Griner’s release, how Ron DeSantis can’t become president if his entire platform is nothing but COVID denialism and bigotry, welcome George Orwell to Ohio, and talk about the imperfect but necessary and welcome Respect for Marriage Act.
Finally, today is the last day for my Winter Meetings Subscription Sale. Act now!
Now let’s close out this big, big week in style.
