Carlos Correa’s pulls a Crazy Ivan, signs with Mets
The San Francisco Giants were scheduled to hold Carlos Correa’s introductory press conference yesterday, a week after they agreed to a $13-year, $350 million deal with the All-Star shortstop, but it was postponed. Reports had it that there was “a medical issue was flagged during Correa's physical” so everything stopped. No one, at least when most of us went to bed last night, figured that it would be a big deal, however, and the chatter in the industry was that it was a minor hiccup which would be cured before Christmas.
Then, in an absolutely stunning development, late last night Jon Heyman reported that the New York Mets swooped in and signed Correa to a 12-year, $315 million contract. Instead of heading to the Bay, Correa is now heading to Queens. This new deal is also pending a physical so we’ll see, but one gets the sense that Steve Cohen’s coup is going to be successfully completed.
