Cup of Coffee: August 3, 2022
Juan Soto bids farewell to Washington at a very busy trade deadline and we all bid farewell to Vin Scully, the greatest baseball broadcaster of all time.
There was a HELL of a lot of action up until last night’s trade deadline. Today I will do my level best to talk about all of it. Or, at the very least, the parts that are interesting to people like us like baseball but who also kinda, you know, have lives.
Which is to say, I talk mostly about the major league level guys with some nods to the prospects involved because that’s sort of the limit of my competence. If you are interested in something more in depth about the minor leaguers in all of these deals, I highly recommend checking out Cup of Coffee’s favorite minor league resource, Down on the Farm.
The biggest deal of the day was the Juan Soto trade — congratulations Padres — but there were so, so many more and we’ll touch on basically all of them. We will also talk about the other big news of the day: the passing of Vin Scully, the greatest there ever was.
In light of all of this there is no “Other Stuff” today, but I think you’ll all agree that ending things with Vin Scully is the thing to do today.
